Christine began at the animal shelter back when it was a tiny one room building with two cat kennels and four dog kennels. It wasn't much at all but she did the best with what she was given. Eventually, the new shelter was built with an entire room for cats and eleven dog kennels. There was a seperate room for the office, laundry, animal wash and even a bathroom. A few years later, a generous donator had an extention built which gave the ACO six more dog kennels to use as a quarentine area. With so much more than she had, Christine was able to help more animals in need than ever before. Her hard work and dedication to the Trinity County Animal Shelter and the animals of Trinity County has not gone unnoticed. In the more than twenty years that she was this county's animal control officer, thousands of animals have found new life with loving homes, lost animals have been reunited with their owners and hundreds of domesticated animals have been rescued from our annual wildfires.
Christine was set to retire early 2018 however, the Carr fire started and she couldn't just put her badge away when she knew animals needed her. With the new ACO, Christina, by her side, she made one last pilgrimage into the flames to pull out any furry and feathered family members who were left behind or lost. Though she is now retired, Christine is still a leading member of the group TASA. The Trinity Animal Shelter Auxilary funds much of the medical needs of the shelter animals as well as a community spay/neuter voucher program using several fundraisers each year. She also still enjoys coming down and volunteering her time to play with the animals or help us in the office. |
A familiar face at our shelter was Sasha. She had worked at our facility for 8 years
Sasha wants us to write it, she worked 8 years. Start date at TAH was May 30th 2019. Will do later. |

Denise has been volunteering at the shelter on and off for 10+ years. She is the one that puts the pictures up on the board at Tops / Holiday in Weaverville. She is a wonderful office worker and can assist with just about anything you need help with. Denise is so dedicated to our little shelter she has been a member of TASA since 1994 and with one foot in both places she can make sure the shelter animals get the funding for the care that they need. Even still, she recently got a new car and got a massive van specifically for assisting in transporting shelter animals to wherever they need to go to be able to be transferred to other shelters or rescues, even when they have to be moved out of state! The shelter is soooo very grateful to have such a wonderful and loving volunteer. |
Destinee didn't work at the shelter for very long but she was an excellent help. She loved working with all the animals and was very passionate about keeping them healthy, happy and enjoying life. Though she did not work in the office she was adamant about making sure everything was clean all day long and was ocd on keeping things put away. We were sad when she had to move on to other things but we will always miss our cleaning fairy. |

The employees and the animals at the Trinity County Animal Shelter would like to give a huge thank you to one of our loyal volunteers Nika and her husband. In the short time she has been volunteering at the shelter she has shown her love and dedication to the animals of our community in numerous ways. We would like to show off just one of the many ways they have helped us by upgrading and remodeling one of our feral cat cages. As you can see by the before and after photos they did a beautiful job. We are saddened to say that they will be leaving us and moving on. We would also like to wish them a fond farewell and and all the best in their new lives in Florida. You will be missed and we wish you a safe trip. |
Bahgeera (aka Buggie) was the office cat for the animal shelter for about 15 years. Throughout her life she served the duties of dog tester and people greeter. She was an amazingly wonderful cat who loved attention from everyone who walked in the door. She was great at both her duties, even when she became a grumpy old lady. Unfortunately one day she bolted out the door when there was a not-cat friendly dog outside, she had gotten slower in her old age and was unable to get away from the dog. She was rushed to the animal hospital by Christine Edwards, our ACO at the time who had known Buggie for her whole life. The animal hospital tried their hardest to save her but it was in vain as she was so old that her body couldn't handle the medical treatment and she passed away. R.I.P Buggie <3 |

Another one of our amazing fosters is Annie! She has been fostering for us for several years and has turned the lives of many cats and dogs around. Bottle feeding young kittens, socializing terrified tiny dogs and loving pregnant pups who give birth at her house. Annie is an amazingly wonderful person whom we could not do without! |
Sheryl is another of our foster parents of whom we could not do without! Caring for close to ten litters each and every kitten season, she is an expert in rescuing bottle babies and she should be as she has been doing it for over three decades! Teaching the next generation to care for the smallest of life, she has been including her kids in the care of the kittens she fosters for several years now and they are learning from the best. Sheryl is more than willing to give advice to others who wish to help the shelter and foster or those who have just found a litter of kittens in their back yard. She can be found on Facebook posting updates on her current foster litter and drumming up excitement watching the tiny fluffballs grow into thriving adorable kittens! |
