The Trinity County Animal Shelter provides emergency boarding in a mandatory evacuation situation. No, this does not mean we can board your animals if you got evicted from your home by your landlord, sorry. Emergency boarding for mandatory evacuation means that you're evacuated due to natural disasters such as a wildfire and you are told by law enforcement that you must leave the area or risk personal injury.
If you are able to take your animals with you wherever you are staying until the evacuation is lifted, we still offer assistance such as portable kennels, food, bowls, leashes, blankets or towels and litter boxes. Just come on down to the shelter and let us know what you are in need of, we will be more than happy to help.
If you are boarding your animals at our shelter, rest assured that they will be given plenty of water, fed on a schedule and lots of comfort in these trying times. If your animals are on medication, we will make sure they get it every day on its scheduled time. Due to the large number of animals that can be in need of shelter during an evacuation, we unfortunately might not have enough time in the day to spend with every animal. We like to let them out of their kennels so that they can stretch their legs and play, so if you want to give us a hand, come visit your animals at any time when we are open to let them out and play with them we would appreciate it. We know your fur-babies will be oh, so very happy to see you and help you, in turn, ease your stress levels.
What types of animals can we board? All kinds! Not just cats and dogs but rodents, birds, horses, goats, reptiles and much, much more. Whatever animal you have that needs a place to stay during an emergency evacuation, you can bring to us! Just make sure to pick it back up when the evacuation is lifted!
Will I be charged a fee to retrieve my animal from the shelter once I can go back home? Nope! Due to it being an emergency situation and law enforcement is the ones telling you it is a mandatory evacuation, you will not be charged a redemption fee to pick up your animals. In fact, so long as you have your animal's current vaccine records, you can also board your animals at the Weaverville Pet Motel for free too (Ph# 530.623.0060). At the Pet Motel, all dogs must be current on their bordetella and parvo shots.
Just in case we have additional questions or anything were to happen, we do require information from you when your pet is entered into our facility. We will need your driver's license, at least two phone numbers, the name of your pet's vet, your current address and P.O. box and the location of where you plan on staying. If you change locations, say you were staying with the Red Cross and a friend offers their spare room, please inform us that you moved locations. All the information we ask you is very important for us to know. It can get very crazy when an evacuation is first called so, to make sure we get everyone identified correctly and their owners identified correctly we need all the information we can get. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
