Our county has a few different options when it comes to helping the public spay and neuter their animals. Some are provided by the shelter while others are provided by non-profit organizations. Below, we have listed all the ways you can be assisted in fixing your animals so you, too, can help reduce our pet overpopulation problem!

Free vouchers provided by the Trinity County Animal Shelter

At the Trinity County Animal Shelter, we offer vouchers to assist families with the cost of getting the animal altered. The amount shown on the voucher will be taken off of your bill at the vet. If you own a dog or cat, it is best to get them spayed or neutered to help stop the pet overpopulation. To get one of these vouchers (If available), you can either stop on by the shelter or call us at 530.623.1370 option 1 to speak to shelter staff.

  • There is no cost to get a voucher.
  • These vouchers are approved for Trinity County, California residents only.
  • They have an expiration date of sixty (60) days so you must use it before then.
  • We can only issue two (2) vouchers per mailing address per month. 
  • Dogs must be licensed with us before we can issue a certificate for a dog. 
  • Only vets in Trinity County, California will accept our vouchers.
  • It is highly recommended that you schedule your spay / neuter appointment prior to getting a voucher.
  • The reimbursement amount will be paid to the vet, not to you. 

Standard Vouchers (You do not need to show proof of income) 

Cats - $30
Dogs - $50 (Dogs must be licensed in order to receive one)
MAGI Vouchers 
(Medi-Cal adjusted gross income or Low Income vouchers)
  • We only receive five of these vouchers each month starting on the first business day of the month to give out so they are first come first serve.
  • You must have proof of low income as follows by the Medi-cal adjusted gross income level in the 2022 Federal Income Guidelines.  Examples of what to show to be able to receive one would be either your Social Security award letter, your Medi-cal enrollment paperwork or last year's taxes. Cats - $150
Dogs - $250 (Dogs must be licensed in order to receive one.)

Hayfork Valley Spay and Neuter

If you live in Hayfork or Hyampom, California, there is a special spay and neuter program specifically for you! To inquire about the program and its details, you will need to contact the program coordinator by either calling their phone number or messaging their Facebook page. TASA Volunteer Spay and Neuter Program

​The Trinity Animal Shelter Auxiliary has started a program where you pay a small deposit and volunteer a certain number of hours working at the shelter. Once your deposit has been paid and your hours have been completed, the program coordinator will schedule your animal's spay or neuter. You will then receive a certificate of completion which you will give to your vet when you take the animal to their appointment and TASA will pay for your bill.
