We are aware it has been past the time we were hoping to have out new website open and available to the public but unfortunately due to what we at the shelter call our 'Licensing Season' we were very busy with lots of office paperwork and didn't have much time at all to work on the new site. We are finally passed that paperwork mountain and got caught up on everything so we are now able to continue working on it! We are now hopeful it will be completed and open by the end of September or early October.
Aside from getting everything on our new website all squared away, we have been talking about updates to the shelter itself, cosmetic stuff that will make our facility look a little more up to date with the times as well as a possible open house to invite the public to come to the shelter and play with the pets, enjoy a barbecue and maybe learn a little about what we do here at the shelter. This would also be an opportunity for us to formally welcome the new animal control officer into her new position and give a fond farewell to the previous one. We would be happy to give information on things such as fostering, volunteering, adoptions, licensing, our funding from TASA, what happens to stray / abandoned / unwanted animals and about that inevitable time of the year: kitten season. We are still tossing around ideas for the event but will update our Facebook page once more decisions and plans are set in stone.

Just a couple weeks later, Bella had gotten adopted by a wonderful family and Brutus was left behind. He didn't mind though, he had plenty of other friends to hang out with. Both the dog and human kind ;) Brutus was quite treat motivated and caught on quick to the tricks we taught him such as sit, stay, paw and leash walking. One day we were contacted by a group called The Veterans of Foreign Wars who were calling many different rescues and shelters, looking for a dog to pull. They wanted to use the dog as a service dog for war veterans with PTSD. Something smart, food motivated and could pay attention to the trainer or owner in a crowd. We immediately thought of our boy Brutus <3 Fitting all the qualifications quite well, we decided to have him meet their trainer at the Petsmart in Redding, CA during their dog adoption event to see how he would do. Brutus passed all the trainer's tests with flying colors! A few days later, after all the paperwork was processed and transportation arranged, this wonderful boy was taken to Vallejo, CA to begin his training. After a week of training, Brutus was introduced to his new owner whom he would assist. This super smart McNab still has a long way to go in his PTSD comfort training but he is already proving himself a star pupil and is determined to help his new human companion through any troubles he may have. Way to go Brutus! We're so proud of you!!
With all this change, we felt that our website needed to change with the times. There wasn't much information on our website at all and our animals weren't updated as often as we would have liked due to time constraints (Not to mention it was very complicated to update because you have to use coding like html and css). So, here is our updated site, all shiny and new, tell us what you think of it! We put as much useful or helpful information as we could think of on it for you guys. It is much easier for us to edit so things can be more up to date than they used to. We will still be updating our Facebook page, Petfinders and our Instagram so don't worry about those. Any feedback you guys and gals can provide us will be discussed among our team and any changes we feel necessary to the website will be made. Thank you everyone! Written by Crystal Green
